I had the pleasure of visiting Five Watt Coffee Cafe for the first time on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. I say the first time because I will most likely visit them again. Five Watt is a quaint little shop that seems to appeal to the millennials.  Friendly service appears natural; they greet every customer with a genuine smile; they’re efficient and still personable.

Because the shop is so comfortable, it seems to be the mobile office for a lot of people.   So getting a table can be challenging. Five Watt makes good use of their space, but as I said, people don’t move too quickly from their “spot”–headphones and laptops on tablets; everyone is in their own zone.

Regarding coffee shop etiquette, I spoke with my barista, Ash. Ash would like patrons to know that in most coffee shops they do not have anyone to bus the tables. There is normally a tub for coffee cups, dishes and eating utensils.  Waste containers are provided for disposable items. Patrons are expected to dispose of their own waste.  Staff should then come and wipe down tables for incoming customers. Baristas can then put their focus on making great coffee and serving the customers.

Do you remember the book “Everything I Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten“?  Well, clean up after yourself is one of those things we learn even before kindergarten. I think most people know this but not all abide by it. So now you know, bus your own dishes at the coffee shop. Have a great day and don’t forget “Manners are Memorable.” Be on your best behavior and put your best foot forward at all times.

Is it bust or bus?  In North America, a busboy, busgirl, busser or bus person is a person who works in the restaurant and catering industry clearing tables, taking dirty dishes to the dishwasher, setting tables.

Etiquette Tip:

Patrons are expected to dispose of their own waste.  Baristas can then put their focus on making great coffee and serving the customers.
